It covers an area of approximately 4,200 square miles and spans across four counties: Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy. Other major cities include Harlingen, San Benito, Edinburg, Mission, Rio Grande City, Raymondville, Weslaco, Hidalgo and Pharr. On the Mexican side of the border Matamoros, Río Bravo, and Reynosa are major cities in this region.
