The city was home to 78,817 people, 26,709 households, and 21,882 families as of the census’s publication in 2010. 2,432.6 individuals were crammed into each square mile. 855.8 dwelling units per square mile, or 27,727, were the average.

Latinos of any race made up 10.6% of the total population. Sugar Land also has a substantial Pakistani population. According to Harish Jajoo, a former city council member of Indian descent, as of 2013, around one-third of the Asian population was Indian American. The national office of the Ismaili Community in the United States is located in Sugar Land.

Of the 26,709 homes, 40.7% had residents under the age of 18, 70.0% were married couples, 8.6% had a female householder living alone without a spouse, and 18.1% did not have children. 15.6% of all households were made up of persons, and 5.3% of them contained a 65-year-old or older single resident. The median pay for full-time male employees was $98,892 compared to $60,053 for female employees. In the city, the per capita income was $48,653. 13.5% of people under the age of 18 and 5.5% of people over the age of 65 lived in poverty, which represented 6.4% of families and 9.9% of the population overall.
